Her name was Jovana. That 26. october, she took her 4 kids to school, and got back to her home. Soon she called her husband, as she felt shes about to deliver her 5th child. Healthy, young and very strong woman, died in hospital, 2 days later. She bled out to death in delivery room while the doctor waited for his kebab to cool off a bit. And have some nap. Literally.
Baby survived after long fight for his life. They transfered him immediately to nearby clinic center. In his documentation, his weight was 3.300 g.
- They gave me a document, where her weight was 3.300. After our arrival to Banja Luka 4 hours later, she was weighted again as standard procedure, and it was 4.600g. What does it means? She got 1.300g in 4 hours after birth? No it means they faked the report, so they can say that C-section wasnt necessary. And i have everything. All the evidences - says Jovana`s husband and father of five, Ranko Sinik.
Sinik family lives in one of many villages on foots of the mountain Kozara. For their area, hospital was located in nearby little town Gradiska. Lovely terrains, gorgeous nature and definitely very nice and warm people.
Case of Jovana Sinik,raised a real mutiny among local population. Before hospital shut off all the employees with threats of losing a job if they speak to media, many of them were openly talking what they witnessed. It caused a lot of anger, and many people joined protests to ask for justice in their cases too.
One simply cant make up a story that doctor was eating his kebabs, cursed at nurse who called him to come because its emergency, and failed to show up 2 hours after Jovana was already bled out on table. Especially, because there were many witnesses, and many witnesses of same situations in the past. Like, really many of them.
Protests were held, and many other families told their stories about fatal cases of neglecting or even killing patients out of incompetence. There was so much of it, everyone thought - this is it. Its time to stop them.
But as usual, nothing happened. Chief of Gynecology department in Gradiska Hospital, Dragan Janjic was sent to temporary suspension, and after less than month, he was back at his job. They did nothing really, except to use this incident to kick out old hospital manager, and appoint the new one, from right political party this time. Business just continued, as usual.
Like in some postsoviet creepy heaven, commission was formed to investigate the case of Jovana Sinik. And its formed out of doctors. They found out that their respected colleague Janjic was acting by European standards and procedures, and as such, he or hospital, or state are not responsible. They sent their report to Ministry of health. Where most of employees, including minister, are also doctors. They accepted the report. Autopsy didnt show any evidences against state health system. That was the result of autopsy done by only pathologist who works that job in the area in the last 30 years. State pathologist. Circle is closed, and theres no way to even get them to the court. But Ranko Sinik will try it, against all odds.
No matter what happens at the court, this case started an avalanche, which is hard to ignore or contain. People started speaking out.
Milan Crnomarkovic, from Gradiska, says his wife and child were waiting for 2 hours for same doctor to wake up, before he came to delivery room. When he finally came, baby was dead. He organised protests, tried everything he could, but babies and mothers are still dying in that same room, because of same people`s faults. Worst is, thats not even faults. For most of the people who dealt with them, those are psychopats and murderers in white.
If you come to them without bribe, they will totally ignore you, no matter of condition and needs. Now people learned - if you need C-section, and you are sure about it, you have to bribe doctor to have it. Or they will let you die, as example to others who relied to state to pay for them. According to one of mothers who was sharing the room with Jovana, she was screaming in pain for whole night. Baby wasreally big, 4.600 as later wieghted, and Jovana knew she will need C. She came to hospital in time. She already had 4 deliveries, and she knew what shes going through. Still they held her and waited her to deliver naturally, because her family obviously didnt pay the Csection tax. Noone even came to check on he for whole night.
And that is same modus operandi on all departments. Wait for the morning, doctors are nasty if you wake them up. They dont like it, really.
When bleeding was already out of control, other employees, nurses and docs figured out they messed it up big time, and decided to call dr Janjic. But he cursed, sent the messenger back in her mother`s vagina(popular curse), and resumed eating his kebabs, as witnessed by one of employees. On same department, head nurse is a person who dont know anything about gynecology, and is unable to supervise the work in her department. She is there because paycheck is solid, and she have friend in hospital management. Thats how some evidences still leaked out - Head nurse was not just responsible for chaos and failures in department, she was also unable to clean up the mess, and make right paperworks.
Its like, system bite its tail.
It never happened before, and no matter if its ends as usual, sort of avalanche started already. You have to understand the fear of people, who have fear to speak or witness, because someone their could end in hands of that same doctor. Or his friend. And they are all friends. Boys holding each other back, as proven countless times. Cant get them punished in any way, but can easily put the target on your family. Or whats left of it.
- Its hard to believe for anyone who didnt had to go through that. I didnt believed stories either before it happened to me. I mean, i knew its bad, but couldnt even dream to see medical staff treating people like they do. I was waiting 8 hours in agony, bleeding and almost died. Noone came to see me at all. Doctor told me to
sleep a bit, and what saved me, is that his shift ended, and doctor who came to work ordered emergency C section, that saved my life and my baby. They dont want to look at you if you dont give them money. I was lying on blood stenched sheets for 2 days after delivery, and there was no one during the night. We could all die until morning, no one will come. Jovana died because they let he suffering and bleeding in her bed whole night. And ive seen how it looks like - said one of mothers from Gradiska during the protest.
More and more people are speaking up, but they dont even bother to fight through the system. Its more of guerrilla warfare. Spreading the word, and organizing into movement.
To have bigger picture, its important to know that doctors in Bosnia are mostly politicians too, some are leaders of parties, party officials, assembly members, and most are CEOs of their private clinics and companies. Those who are not that high yet, are climbing fast. Mostly over corpses.
Everyone here has a similar story with doctors. Many of them have their painful experiences with same doctors.
Their loved ones died either because noone bothered to treat their emergency conditions, wrong diagnoses with fatal result, or hospital infections because lying in feces for whole days with decubital wounds.
How would you call the hospital where you cant enter to take care of your loved one, and she or he is dying of thirst? Most of the people comparing it with nazi camps. They wont give them water without envelope with some nice cash inside. Its not like, they will do it anyway, if they see its someone poor. Thats old procedure.
There is many stories with same hospital, butt this time different department - ICU. According to family members, former employees and patients, that crew is into serious murdering business. Allegedly, they even have doctor who never had proper education for that job. Still he works, killing or mutilating patients, and people are paying big cash to AVOID him. Actually he is golden hen for his colleagues.
Even their price is fixed, its 500 euros for entry ticket. Then you can choose what will you buy. Whatever you buy, and whatever cash you give them, they will only make sure your family member is alive. For others, they wont have even second of time.
Nurses, doctors, even cleaning ladies, are taking the cash from families. There were cases when family paid to doc so they can dress wounds and change bandages. Because no one would, and they had enough cash only for that service. Most of the time, ICU nurses are on facebook, doctors are socialising with their colleagues, having appointments with pharma company representatives, working on their own private clinics or deciding the fate of the people in their parties and government. You cant really have their attention without 1k of euros. Per minute.
And when theres a dead patient, it always goes to same pathologist, whose autopsy never finds out that state could be responsible
There is so much of it, one cant really decide where to start, and what to do with all that. Theres serious material for criminal charges, long time prison sentences and countless cases for lifetime ban to work in health department.
One thing they are afraid of is media, so they bought all the media. ITs quite easy here. I was still in the industry when they were doing it, simply by becoming media sponsors with their private companies or public institutions on republic, state or city level. Soon, more than 50% of budget of all media, from TVs to obscure portals, was made of sponsoring contract with docs, their political parties, pharmacies, private clinics and state institutions. Means, you cant really tell it to journalists, and expect to see it published. Such stories can go through only if they are arranged to put someone down, solve some debts or some other conflict between docs. Only in such cases it would reach media. When there is something that can be such easily ignored, it goes with PR campaign for months after, with lot of whitewashing, and its paid more than good.
So only way for taking them out of hospitals, and preventing them to kill more people is to search for international support, and state independent investigation and supervisory.
One thing is sure, all their scheme is crumbling down. People are not such sheep anymore, as they used to be. Still i wonder what are docs ready to do to protect their freedom, business, power and wealth. I doubt it will go without dramatic resistance.
What experiences you have with health system in your countries? I know it can get even darker than this, but it also seems in other countries docs are still getting sentenced, and people are allowed investigation and trials. Here we have the best health system on planet, according by lack of trials for medical errors.
Still i dont see this ending any well for mentioned doctors.
In any case, it would be better for them to quit it, and disolve their business before someone decides to take the justice in their own hands. And that scenario is more than close, with every case.
