The cries of a clipped macaw
Forever damned to the earth, it roams
Dreams of soaring above the clouds
Awaken in the steel cold prison, his electric throne

Many moons he laboured in bounds
Shackled by the countless yesterdays
Blinded by the light of tomorrow
Such is the irony of life's cabaret

Time is the eraser of memories
Healer of wounds
Yet time cannot expel
The hex of a broken heart
A gift from his gypsy love, femme fatale
But a love 'til the end when death befell

Before he kissed her lips for the last time
She pierced his lapel with a wooden rose
Leaning in she whispers into his ear, a souvenir
A keepsake, remember the joys, not the woes

Smoke pirouetting from her fingertips
As she lay there upon the satin sheets
The bride of a pharaoh, befitting her beauty
Is he her pharaoh, or just a piece of meat?

Time is the eraser of memories
Healer of wounds
Yet time cannot expel the hex of a broken heart
A gift from his gypsy love, femme fatale
Echoing in the desolate rooms of this empty hotel

The macaw fluttered, draws back
Staring absently into the crystal crack
Seeing only a reflection of his void soul
His blackened heart gliding away like a crow

Many moons from now
When his tears no longer fell
Her features lost to the ocean of time
Her memories fade into this saddening rhyme

When he could no longer recall
Will his heart begin to soar?
Or will he try but fail, flop and fall?
The clipped macaw sits atop his electric throne
A crack remains where his soul had been sewn

Time is the eraser of memories
Healer of wounds
Yet time cannot expel the hex of a broken heart
A gift from his gypsy lover, femme fatale
As he reluctantly bids his final farewell
