I love street photography and stalking people. But that doesn't mean that I'm any good at it. Especially stalking. You can hear me giggle or whisper something stupid on the other side of the corner when I stalk people. That's the time to just say: "You can come out now, I can hear you stalking me."
Taking photos is almost as bad. As a person who likes my own space, it's really hard to get close enough to people so that the photos would be interesting. And with the 16-50 mm lens I have in my Sony A6400, it's harder than ever. When my personal space meter constantly blinks red and DEFCON 1 is imminent, I still need to do closer and breath to peoples necks. And although that is always kinda fun, it's pretty weird. And frightening. Mostly to me.
And then there are all the other variables. Those that I could have a say on if I was a professional photographer and those that I can do nothing to.
Sure there sometimes are one or two good pics, but for every okay, decent or excellent photo, there are tens and almost hundreds of almost got it but not quite -photos. I'd like to share some of those to you. I'm excellent at almost doing something. I'd like to make art of it. So I will. And have done that.
I know you're dying to see my almost sharp photos, so let's get to it.
First the one that is sharp. I have to start with a decent one. For thumbnails sake.
This lady walked towards me so there was a slight chance to get her photographed fronm the front, but I wan't fast enough. And I'm a bit unsure to publish peoples faces, although photographing in public spaces is allowed. And the scenery on this bridge to the other direction was a bit disorderly and messy so I think this direction actually was better. Photo of someones back. I have lots and lots of those.
Someone wearing a pink coat and a pink bag in Finland! Unheard of. Never been seen before. Until now.
And then, on the same day, this happened. More pink.
All that pink. And only half of it in the photo. I was kicking myself to my ass when I saw this.
Almost sharp. DAMMIT!
This old, cute couple. I followed them home for a while.
My personal opinion is that it would have been good to get the couple the the right side of the photo so that the empty space would have been on the left side. Over there where they are looking. And walking towards. But then again when cropped like this, the photo just gives a different kind of vibe. From westerners point of view when the subject is looking to the right, that equals good things like hope and future, so looking to the left is more like looking to the past. And if the photo is cut so that there's no space for the subject to look into, it gives a bit of a desperate or a dead end impression. Depending of course on several other things on the photo too. So there could be an interesting story.
But what I was aiming for was that the couple would be sharp, not headless and not too many other people around them. Did that. This was the best of all the photos that I managed to take of this slowly moving couple. But it seems that they still were too nimble and quick for my photographing skills.
Then there's this next one.
Next time I will make sure that my aperture is narrower so the photo is sharp from front-to-back. And hope that there will be enough light to still use about 1/400 shutter speed. To stop motion. Not too much, but enough. This could have been and excellent photo if it would have been sharp all over. Fast food with legs.
Before my last almost sharp photo, let's just see what happened just before the leggy fast food.
A secret revealed. It wasn't the food with the legs. Cute earrings by the way.
Last photo. An eye catcher. Blue sky turned in to grey. But one thing though...
...almost sharp.
