Two centuries ago, Frankenstein rebuilt man into monster.
A little younger than Frankenstein, his mad lab and living creation, this 85+ year old Ford Model-A battery was brought in 'cause it was as dry and dusty as most other 85 year old things!
As you can see, this type of battery has 3 cells. Each contains a grouping of alternating positive and negative lead plates that are embedded with different mixes of lead oxide paste. The plates are then normally bathed in sulphuric acid. But when this battery arrived, it was totally dry. Who knows how long it sat like that, 'cause it was reading 0.02 volts - dead...
So it got topped up with some low-mid strength acid, and given a very light charging at low amperage for a dozen hours or so.
Left it with a hope and just like that, an eighty five year old battery works almost like new! It's reading 6.33 volts, just about where it should be!
Some things just need to be thrown away, but like many other aspects of life, repairs are not always actually needed, just some care and attention, and a little fuel...
