I sketched Aliko Dangote today, but thos drawing is more than about one man. It is about Nigeria's economy and the ordinary people living in it.
The Dangote Refinery is a major industrial achievement, and the new IPO gives Nigerians an opportunity to own shares. But while we are being encouraged to invest, many Nigerians are still struggling with the cost of fuel, food, cement, transportation and basic living.
So the question is simple: if wealth is being democratic educated, when will ordinary Nigerians actually feel that prosperity in daily lives?
Investment can create opportunity, but it is not guarantee of wealth. And economic growth should not only be measured by how big our companies become, but also by whether ordinary people can afford to live save, build and prosper.
This sketch is my way of asking: who creates the wealth, who benefits from it, and when does prosperity finally reach the people?
