This sketch is more than a drawing of a child holding an empty bowl. It represents a reality faced by millions around the world; hunger, poverty, lack of education, poor shelter, disease, unemployment, and the daily struggle to survive.
Behind every statistics about poverty is a real person with dreams, talents, emotions and dignity.
This drawing also asks us a difficult question:
While people are struggling around us, are we paying enough attention?
Government and leaders have responsibilities, but ordinary people also have a role to play.
Sometimes helping doesn't require much money.
Sharing food, supporting a child's education, teaching a skill, encouraging someone, or simply treating a struggling person with dignity can make a difference.
We may not be able to change something in someone's life.
I created this artwork not just to show poverty, but to encourage us to look again, care more and do what we can.
Because sometimes, what a struggling person needs most is for someone to say:
I see you. You matter. And I will do what I can.
