Now I'm not one for sticking children in front of a computer or on an ipad in a hurry but sometimes it's a necessary evil for your own sanity. As parents we need a break every now and then and that's the right time for some online educational learning for our children.
Children learn through play... we should all know that by now!
Playing comes in many forms. Boardgames, playgrounds, classrooms, playing alone, with other children or with adults. In our modern world children play with mobile phones, ipads, laptops, computer games, or a virtual reality headset. It's not uncommon to see two year old children tapping away on a mobile phone or ipad. Frankly, it scares me as physical and mental health is compromised in my opinion. The other day my phone had issues so I asked this 16 year old to fix it... tap - tap - tap and there you are... all fixed!
A new generation of tappers has been born!
Using your PC as a babysitting tool is not a bad idea as long as an educational value or an educational outcome is achieved.
If children are left alone for hours playing on these devices then I fear parents have seriously abused their electronic babysitter. Set a time limit and restrict access to other online areas. How often have you heard the phrase "just one more game!"
... and then another and another game, it never ends! Set boundaries people! If you have done so already I congratulate you. You are a good parent and good parents are not always liked by their offspring. Stick to your boundaries, be patient and use your electronic babysitter wisely.
