Hi everyone. I was thinking a few days ago about how our minds can play tricks on us in a delayed way, with memories, events, and especially words that don't affect us or evoke any emotion at the time, but that we later unconsciously dwell on and overthink, and they end up causing negative feelings even though they should have already passed and we should consider them something that has lost its impact. It's like a kind of self-sabotage, and this will happen to us several times in the long run, making us feel bad or, in most cases, leading to a breakdown. I'm thinking about this precisely because of a small event that happened a few days ago.
The thing is, and to make a long story short, I have a friend whom I've grown fond of over time simply because I've let go of that part of myself that's who I am; you know, when we sometimes hold back and find it hard to show certain things. And while it's been a gradual process, it's created that feeling you get when you connect with people and have a good time. However, some time ago I told others that my sister and I have a very close relationship because we have each other, and yes... well, currently she's the one who spoils me or helps me with expenses; in previous years it was the other way around, and those who don't know that often criticize the way we get along. Therefore, a few days ago this friend commented that if my sister treats me this way, it's out of pity and because I didn't finish my degree, and while I didn't pay much attention to it at the time, days later I started overthinking and judging myself. And while it may be something very personal, it's the way I feel I can best explain what I'm trying to say today, which is that, although my sister and I know very well that there's no pity involved, but rather a lot of communication and mutual trust, it's normal for people outside our circle, even family members, to have these negative thoughts simply because they feel it's better for siblings not to get along. They will do it, so their way of making it known will be through criticism, action, and above all, words.
With this in mind, words can certainly be relentless, regardless of whether they are long, elaborate, or, on the contrary, so simple that they go unnoticed. However, they will have their effect at the right moment, and that's what we sometimes fail to consider, taking us by surprise, especially if we are the type to overthink things or have those moments to analyze and see all sides of each situation. Now, what this friend I mentioned said isn't something I intend to take personally, that is, to dwell on any negative feelings, because that's harmful, as I mentioned in my post last week regarding whether we really take things personally. But that doesn't change the fact that when words are used on points we know are our weaknesses, they are like daggers. Even so, one thing is certain: these are the kinds of challenges that teach us there's still much healing to be done within ourselves, and that we must continue learning to value ourselves and remember who we are in moments like these, recognizing that our effort is also a talent.
So, this is my thought on last week's topic, a response from @talentos, which I hadn't had the chance to participate in. However, I felt the urge to talk about it, so I took the opportunity to focus on it, as these challenges don't distinguish between past, present, or future when they affect us. Even so, it's up to us to know how to cope and confront these challenges, how to let them affect us, whether good or bad. So, without further ado, and hoping you enjoyed it, thank you for reading.
