The Green House / La Casa Verde

It seemed like a dream to enter the Green House, or at least that's what I called it for many years in my mind. Green is the color that symbolizes hope, nature, it has a relaxing effect: that must be why I was so attracted to that color, and therefore, to that building that I had seen so many times, with that halo of mystery.
Now I know that its real name is La Casa de las Tejas Verdes (The House of Green Tiles), and it is the Center for the promotion of architecture, urbanism and design in the capital.

Me pareció un sueño entrar en la Casa Verde, o al menos así le llamé yo por muchos años en mi mente. El verde es el color que simboliza la esperanza, la naturaleza, tiene un efecto relajante: debe ser por eso que me llama tanto la atención ese color, y por ende, ese inmueble que tantas veces había visto, con ese halo de misterio.
Ahora sé que su verdadero nombre es La Casa de las Tejas Verdes, y constituye el Centro promotor de la arquitectura, el urbanismo y el diseño en la capital.

The building was restored in 2005 by the Office of the Historian of Havana, and in this process an attempt was made to replicate the decoration and furnishings of the house, which had several owners since its construction date. For this purpose, documents and photographs showing the original sketch were collected.
I consider that the repair works that were executed had an exquisite level of detail, as I was able to see some photos of the immense state of deterioration that the house was in before. In fact, already in 2010 it deserved to be awarded the National Restoration Award. Currently, the only original piece that exists is a laundry room.

El inmueble fue restaurado en el 2005 por la Oficina del Historiador de La Habana, y en este proceso se intentó replicar la decoración y el mobiliario de la vivienda, que tuvo varios propietarios desde su fecha de construcción. Para ello se recopilaron documentos y fotografías que mostraban el boceto original.
Considero que las obras de reparación que se ejecutaron tuvieron un nivel de detalle exquisito, pues pude ver algunas fotos del inmenso estado de deterioro en que estaba la vivienda con anterioridad. De hecho, ya en el 2010 mereció que se le otorgara el Premio Nacional de Restauración. Actualmente, la única pieza original que existe es un lavadero.

The walls are decorated with paintings made expressly to liven up the house, all of which use the color green or evoke a passage of the former owners. Many of these have pictures of houses in Havana that have been awarded national architecture prizes in Cuba.

Las paredes están decoradas por cuadros realizados expresamente para amenizar la casa, en todos se usa el color verde o evocan algún pasaje de sus antiguos dueños. Muchos de estos tienen fotos de casas de La Habana que han sido premio nacional de arquitectura en Cuba.

One of the living rooms, which was formerly used as the living room to receive visitors, has large sofas with red and tan cushions. Every lamp in the house is different, but each one is beautiful too.
The decor is exquisite: every ornament is eye-catching and unique; I couldn't help but photograph a table dressed with still life.

Uno de los salones, que antiguamente era usado como la sala para recibir visitas, cuenta con grandes sofás que cargan cojines rojos y bronceados. Cada lámpara en la casa es diferente, pero cada una muy bonita también.
La decoración es exquisita: cada adorno es llamativo y único; no pude dejar de fotografiar una mesa aderezada con naturaleza muerta.

The kitchen is spacious, but with practically non-existent decor, which I really liked because the minimalist style is very appealing to me.

La cocina es amplia, pero con una decoración prácticamente inexistente, lo cual me gustó mucho porque el estilo minimalista me resulta muy atractivo.

The guide of the property, who by the way was a very empathetic and talkative person, explained to me that the house previously had 5 rooms, but that was one of the elements that were not recovered during the repair, and that space was left as a room between the blocks of rooms.

La guía del inmueble, que por cierto era una persona muy empática y conversadora, me explicó que la casa anteriormente tenía 5 cuartos, pero ese fue uno de los elementos que no se recuperaron durante la reparación, y ese espacio quedó como una sala entre los bloques de habitaciones.

In the garden there is a very pleasant breeze because the vegetation is abundant. I spent some time sitting on one of the benches observing one of the stone sculptures called Pareja Danzante (Dancing Couple), which when detailed closely, from my point of view, fuses two lovers embracing enjoying a dance piece.

En el jardín se respira una brisa muy agradable porque la vegetación es abundante. Estuve un rato sentada en uno de los bancos observando una de las esculturas en piedra llamada Pareja Danzante, que cuando se detalla de cerca, desde mi punto de vista, fusiona dos amantes abrazados disfrutando de una pieza de baile.

Of course I went up to the top floor to see and touch the green tiles. These were formerly stained glass, but now only the original trestle remains. Up there I also found Wassily chairs, which certainly looking at them up close look like a modern day model.

Por supuesto que subí al último piso para ver y tocar las tejas verdes. Estas anteriormente eran de cristal vitrificado, pero ahora solamente queda original el caballete. Allí arriba también encontré sillas Wassily, que ciertamente mirándolas de tan cerca parecen un modelo de nuestros días.

To my surprise I was able to enjoy a nice piano concert, as the final exams of the best music students of the National Art School were being held there. I could not help thinking that it is a pleasure to experience so many experiences in the same place.

Para mi sorpresa pude disfrutar de un lindo concierto de piano, pues se estaban realizando allí las pruebas finales de los mejores estudiantes de música de la Escuela Nacional de Arte. No pude dejar de pensar que es un placer experimentar tantas experiencias en un mismo lugar.
