During my trip to Oroquieta City, it was important for me to go where the locals go! Good thing, my cousin who lives there volunteered to give me a tour. On one occasion when we had a spontaneous trip to Isko River Resort, we decided to buy some food before heading out. I let my cousin do all the planning and decision-making as I wanted to take a break from such responsibility which I usually do when I travel with my friends. So I was kind of amazed when he brought me to their local seafood wet market to shop for our meal!
The road was wide and spacious. There were only a few people during our visit. Though it was a hot day, the stalls have shades. It was my first time visiting this kind of wet market where the only products sold were a variety of seafood. Most of the wet markets I've visited sell a mixture of fish and seafood. Although other stalls sell vegetables, fruits, and dried fish near the entrance; the main attraction here that locals come after is the seafood which was found on the far end!
More than 10 stalls of seafood vendors were arranged in a line so it was easy for the buyers to walk and see what they were selling. Coming up close, I was excited to see the shells, seaweed, squid, mussels, scallops, and a lot more seafood of names I am not aware of! They were displayed on small basins with a cup mounted on a small stand in the center where one could see clearly what the item was.
I thought my cousin would be able to pick one right away but we had to walk past each stall and then come back. Most of the seafood displayed in the basin would cost Php 40 or less than a dollar per cup! so it was already affordable. The bottle of sea urchins costs Php 300 or $5. The shells would range from Php 50 - Php 100 or $1 - $2 per order. If not all, then most of the seafood sold were fresh as they were already located at the port.

We bought a variety of seafood which we enjoyed eating during our river escapade later that day but I will never forget this part where I was able to shop at a seafood wet market for the first time in my life! It's fun to go and buy your food from the local stores and markets. Fresh items and cheaper prices. That's it for my #marketfriday story! Looking forward to reading yours.
