Edit: Faltermann kindly pointed out in the comments that it isn't a Monarch butterfly at all, rather a species of Swallowtail.
Finally! There have been so many different butterflies flapping through our back patio but they never land. And if they don't set down somewhere, it's incredibly difficult to capture a photo.
Today was the day I snapped that pic and it's my first entry to the Fascinating Insects Community. What a lucky way to kick things off with a chance visit by this Monarch. Or perhaps it was just meant to be.
The lady only sat still for a few seconds. Just long enough for me to get a shot of her on a branch of our lime tree. And I captured one more just as she was lifting off.
After zooming in by cropping, the image didn't turn out too grainy to view. There's the closer shot of the Monarch below.
