First of all, I feel like it was a great week for Gods Unchained! The new "Singleton" format mode was very enjoyable and a lot of players participated. The number of daily users remains stable, but I’m happy to see new and returning players appearing on Discord/Reddit/Hive.
After the recent Sanctum and God Powers balance changes, let's do a quick analysis: who are the biggest winners, and who are the losers? Let’s dive into the Gumeta stats.
The increased Favor cost for most cards has had a noticeable effect. Here's my take on the changes:
Aggro Archetypes: Aggro was nerfed as the Favor economy is less generous now. The previous Sanctum setup heavily favored War but any aggro was affected by: The reduction of anti-weapon options from 2 to 1, as well as the availability of cheap creatures and tools to counter the void.
Sleep Archetypes: Sleep-heavy decks were hit hard. The addition of two new anti-sleep cards is a strong counter.
Death Decks: While the reduced void hate slightly benefits Death, it hasn’t been enough to make the archetype strong in the current meta. Death continues to struggle overall.
Midrange and Control Decks: These decks were buffed. The meta now offers solid late-game board clears and powerful creatures (Hippo OP), making them more competitive.
Many Sanctum cards are now more situational, which adds depth to gameplay. I particularly like the addition of tricky but useful cards like Flamecaller. While it may seem weak at first, it forces opponents to deal with it since it deals 1 damage every turn to both the board and the opponent's god.
IMO cards that stand out because of their flexibility and utility:
The recent changes to God Powers bring some interesting dynamics.
With Create and Thievery no longer generating cards, the impact is mainly seen in Sealed and format modes.
I feel the balance direction set by the Gods Unchained team is quite solid right now. I’ve been playing GU for 3–4 years, and we’ve never had such a long period of 'OK' balance in the meta. Some cards are strong for sure but all the gods are close to 50% winrate and there is no outstanding leader.
It’s also worth noting that many players are now focusing on optimizing their decks to maximize $GODS profits instead of simply trying to dominate with Meteorite Wallet Control decks for $0.001 rewards. This economic factor serves as a balancing mechanism, and it’s proof that the recent P2E changes were well-implemented.
Whatever works, right?
Thanks
