Just because someone attends the same classes as you, goes on the same bus as you, lives in the same room as you, is in the same society as you, doesn't make them your friend by default.
-Anyone who never misses an opportunity to subtly put you down in front of others, whether it's by mocking your financial situation, or your problems, or your personality or what you look like, is NOT your friend.
-Anyone who airs your problems in public or behind your back, when taken into confidence, is NOT your friend.
-Anyone who trivializes your issues, repeatedly, and turns it into a competition of who's had it worse, is NOT your friend.
-Anyone who when confronted about behaviour you found hurtful, says 'main to mazak kar raha tha' and still doesn't apologise, is NOT your friend.
-Anyone who keeps you around for your looks, or your popularity, your connections or your grades, is NOT your friend.
-Anyone who knows your weakest point, your deepest insecurity, and throws it back in your face in arguments just to prove a point, is NOT your friend.
-Anyone who you cannot openly, honestly talk to and sort things out with, is simply NOT your friend.
True friendship is about understanding, about unconditional acceptance. Its about knowing you can own up to the worst parts of yourself and still be found worthy of love. Its about having the support you need, and giving each other the room you both deserve. True friendship is being able to admit that you're wrong and to be able to reflect that you don't know what it's like to be in someone else's shoes.
I know none of us want to end up alone- but alone is so much better than being with someone who just exists to bring you down more often than they build you up.
