I was sitting at the window seat as the trains flashed through the station
I had been sent to my uncle’s house in the country, apparently my mother could not cope with me running around the house and my father was at work all the time.
It will only be for 4 weeks my mother said, and then I will come and get you.
I do not know what the problem is, I am a normal 7-year-old boy, my school said that I wasn’t allowed to go there anymore, something to do with me disrupting the whole school, every day.
I just could not sit still most of the time, sitting here at the window seat was quite exciting, I could see all the fields, towns and trees flash by as the train sped on and on.
My Brother, Your Uncle, my Mother said. Is a very nice man, he has a very large property and I am sure he will let you run around as much as you want, he may even teach you how to milk the cows and tend the chickens.
I must admit this sounded like a lot more fun than being couped up in a house all day, not allowed outside because the street around our house were always busy and my Mother was afraid I would run out into the street.
Your Uncle will be there to meet you at the station when you get there. He will recognise you and call out your name when he sees you. Make sure you are polite and respectful towards him. He has no children of his own so he may not be used to small people. He was like you though and used to run aro9und all the time, that is why he moved to the country.
The trains started to slow, and, in the distance, I could see a small town. As the train pulled into the station, there was only one person on the platform.
I stepped off the train and the man on the platform shouted out my name.
You must be Rebecca’s boy, he said.
That is me I replied.
Come on then, he said, let’s go, hop into my car and we will head to the farm
I jumped into the passenger seat in the car, as I did, I saw a box on the back seat, My Uncle smiled.
That is for you he said, I heard you liked to play, so I went and got all the Match Box Cars I could find. You will have plenty of room to set them up when we get home.
