Growing up between the ages of 13 to 19 is not easy especially if you are coming from a middle-class family or humble
background. It kind of hard because this when you have to know and chose right or wrong and live morally up right in face of hardship. Here you will have to discover many things
for yourself were morality is concerned. The discovery part is the most complex, because you can do something that may affect your future. When I look back at
my teenage days there certain things I wish my parent mentioned to me especially in the area of puberty . The could not discuss somethings because of culture,
well culture is good in certain ways however when it comes to issues of sexuality parents forget that such topics shape who we
become in society when we reach adulthood.
In Africa topics like sexuality and reproductive health can not be discussed in home sitting because it regarded as a taboo to talk about such with you kids. Hence it makes navigating sexuality as a teen a hard nut to crack especially if no one has told you about it. To make the
matters worse schools rarely talk about or teach about sexual reproductive health. And this results in teenage pregnancies and young people infected with
sexual transmitted diseases. Not only the aforementioned things it also includes emotional and psychological distress. And such lead to mental health issues and not
developing healthy relationships in adulthood. Additionally this may lead to harmful tendencies like objectification of women and addiction to porn.
Moreover life as a teenage brings attention to other influences like social media which has brought more harm to this generation not forget peer pressure. Individually I have purposed to change the narrative when it comes to raising my children I will not shy away about sharing my life experiences as a teenager. I will be blunt about matters about sexuality better they approach this issue with the I was told mindset, than I wish I was told.
