Living in a world you can not control. Is a comforting proposition to some. It seemingly absolves them of all responsibility and meaning. Watching my liberal parents watch videos of people getting car jacked or purses snatched then make comments like. "Criminals are getting creative" or bland remarks about them "sticking guns in peoples faces to rob them" completely missing the reality that sometimes when those robbers "stick guns in your face" they pull the trigger.
I did not bother suggesting to them they should become gun owners. They would still come up with some ideological bs about why it is unnecessary or not going to help them. Also my parents are un-believably forgetful and childish. Not the type to handle deadly weapons well. I mean if you can't keep track of a cell phone reliably what are the odds you "misplace" your gun. I think everyone should own a gun. I realize though that some people will need more training than others.
My parents would need so much training just to be able to not shoot themselves on accident. Not just how to operate the gun safely but training on being responsible decent people and getting their brains to a point where they can actually handle owning something you CAN NOT misplace or fuck up with. Like legally speaking.
My point though has nothing to do with guns. It is the commonly but not always neo-liberal trait of looking at real life events like Abed from the show Community. I am sorry this sucks to realize but life is NOT just a reality show. Things actually REALLY HAPPEN and they matter.
