Nadis are the subtle energy nerves of our chakras. The chakras can be seen as the energy bodies of the endocrine system whereas Nadis are the subtle energy anatomy of our nerves. Each chakra is a plexus or center where the Nadis extend from. There are said to be 72,000 Nadis in the human body in most traditions yet there are others which double this and say 144,000. Either way, if you add up the numbers they equal 9. By establishing a conscious relationship with the main three Nadis, and our whole energy body, all the other Nadis are simultaneously tended to and maintained. These three Nadis are called Ida, Pingala and Shushumna. Ida is directly connected to the left nostril and pingala with the right. In some traditions they are seen as crisscrossing at each chakra center as these two Nadis descend to the root or base. Others traditions indicate no crisscrossing of these two Nadis and describe them as only meeting at the base of the spine where they meet the central channel. Shushumna is the name of the central nadi, where the polar energy of the left and right Nadis centralize and unify to course up the spine, delivering this balanced prana to each chakra while purging anything unlike love and sacred unity from the subtle anatomy. Because the breath is our source of life energy prana and our left and right Nadis are connected our nose, conscious Breathing with the nose is a most natural and effective way to experiment with and experience the Nadis. The hair on our body are extensions of our nervous system and are also directly connected to our Nadis.
To keep the Nadis clear and flowing with life force energy, the simplest and possibly most powerful way is connected breathing. To balance the left and right Nadis in order to have a balanced current flowing through central Nadi, alternate nostril Breathing is most potent and efficient. Emotion is energy in motion. Connected breath keeps this energy in motion. When and where the energy is not in motion there is a blockage of some sort. Our go to technique for clearing the blockage or better yet, giving loving attention to the blockage is connected Breathing. There is no need to focus on the blocked energy. We simply focus on flowing more life force through our Nadis with our breath. This coherent life force will go to wherever it can best serve our body.
Anytime we may be feeling bad, or feeling bad vibes from another, overwhelmed, heavy, resentful, discouraged or any type of negativity it is our Nadis that are being overstimulated. Conscious Connected Breathing while being present in love/acceptance/non reactivity with whatever is coming up can transform our experience of any pattern of energy we are feeling into Sacred Unity aka integration into original wholeness. By being conscious of how we feel at any given moment and surfing those waves of feeling on the surfboard of breath we keep our Nadis in optimal flow and lightness. To be aware of how we are feeling on the innermost planes we strengthen our awareness of our Nadis.
Nada means sound. Nadi means stream or flow. The connection between these two sounds may suggest that sound is another great tool for keeping Nadis flowing optimally.
The central stream or central Nadi is similar to the middle of a Torus. The inner is always being expressed outward and the outer is continually flowing inward. Our central Nadi or panic tube can be seen like the middle of the Torus or the hole in a donut. To give attention to spinal breathing or breathing through the central channel we tend to the whole energy body and all Nadis.
Conscious Connected Breathing through the middle Path facilitates illumination of the nadis. The true illumine Nadis.
