[Movie] Review: Changeling

We’re starting the week with a new review; for movie lovers, today I bring you a new classic, from a few years ago already, but still worth remembering and talking a little about. The Exchange, or The Substitute, is the name of this movie. It’s based on the story of a woman, a mother whose son disappears without a trace, just when she had already given him up for dead. A few months later, the police tell her they found him, but like any mother who knows her child, she notices a big difference that makes her doubt and insist that this boy isn’t hers. All of this leads her into a series of events, where it ends up making everyone believe she’s lost her mind.

Why did I choose to watch it? At the time, the synopsis caught my attention, starting with the fact that it’s based on real events, since the story doesn’t just talk about the disappearance of this boy, but about the background of it. First, it shows the pain and desperation of a mother not knowing where her son is, what happened to him, how he disappeared like that.

A story that starts off a bit slow and confusing, but as it goes on, we see how each event, each scene, is structured, with a genuine presentation based on the 1920s, featuring some intrigue and a lot of drama.

I am a big fan of this actress (Angelina Jolie). There are very few movies I’ve seen with her, but without a doubt, this film showed us a different side of her, playing a completely devastated and desperate mother, trying to find a way to uncover the truth, to know what really happened to her son, with everyone against her, revealing confusing ideas and conclusions that only suited them, but which were clearly not enough for her. A mother always knows, and she had to prove her truth to everyone.

What did I like? The twist this story took, how the disappearance of a child led to revealing an unexpected, cruel, and emotional ending, but not to the point of making you cry; it just gives you a knot in your stomach seeing all this drama. It’s worth noting that the film was directed by the renowned filmmaker Clint Eastwood.

With a runtime of two hours, a story that moves you, a mother’s struggle to get to the truth, with the help of a man who believes in her, John Malkovich, who also stands out in his role, ready to face the police elite, corruption, and a journalist brave enough to tell this story.

Comenzamos la semana con una nueva reseña; para los amantes del cine, hoy les traigo un nuevo clásico, de hace unos cuantos años ya, pero que de igual manera vale la pena recordar y hablar un poco de él. Este film está basado en hechos reales, estrenado en el año 2008 y protagonizada por la famosa actriz Angeline Jolie. ¿Quieren saber de qué se trata? Sigan leyendo.

El intercambio o el sustituto es el nombre de esta película. Se basa en la historia de una mujer, una madre cuyo hijo desaparece, sin dejar rastros, cuando ella ya lo daba por muerto. Unos meses después, la policía le informa haberlo encontrado, pero como toda madre que conoce a su hijo, ella nota una gran diferencia, que la hace dudar y asegurar que ese niño no es suyo. Todo esto la lleva a verse envuelta en una serie de sucesos, donde termina haciéndole creer a todos que perdió la razón.

¿Por qué elegí verla? En su momento me llamó la atención la sinopsis, empezando porque se basa en hechos reales, ya que la historia no solo habla de la desaparición de este niño, sino del trasfondo de ello. Primero, mostrar el dolor y desesperación de una madre al no saber dónde está su hijo, qué pasó con él, cómo desapareció de esa forma.

Una historia que comienza algo lenta y confusa, pero que, a medida que va avanzando, veremos cómo se estructura cada hecho, cada escena, con una presentación genuina, basada en la época de los años 20, compuesta por algo de intriga y mucho drama.

Yo soy muy fan de esta actriz (Angeline Jolie). Son muy pocas las películas que he visto con ella, pero sin duda este film nos mostró una faceta diferente, en el papel de esta madre totalmente devastada, y desesperada, buscando la manera de dar con la verdad, saber qué pasó realmente con su hijo, teniendo a todos en su contra, revelándole ideas confusas, conclusiones que solo a ellos les convenía, pero que sin duda, para ella, no era suficiente. Una madre siempre sabe, y ella debía demostrarle a todos su verdad.

¿Qué me gustó? El giro que dio esta historia, cómo una desaparición de un niño llevó a revelar un final inesperado, cruel, emotivo, pero no al nivel de sacarte lágrimas; solo te lleva a tener un nudo en el estómago al ver todo este drama. Cabe señalar que dicho film fue dirigido por el reconocido director de cine, como lo es Clint Eastwood.

Con una duración de dos horas, una historia que conmueve, una lucha de una madre por dar con la verdad, con ayuda de un hombre que cree en ella, John Malkovich, el cual también destaca en su papel, dispuesta a enfrentar a la élite policial, a la corrupción, y un periodista con el valor para contar esta historia.
