One late musician named Oliver Dekokwe said that life teaches us good and bad.
You can experience bad and good when you take a job. But never allow the bad experience design you rather learn something great from it that will guide you in life. I chose to discuss about my bad experience when I worked as C.O in a microfinance Bank. CO here means credit officer. Read patiently as i share my story with you.
Have you ever had a bad job? If so, tell us about it. Why was it bad and what positive things you learned from doing it.
I have worked with Day Dawn Microfinance Bank for 2 years. I worked as a marketer who group business women together to get loan from the bank. It was not an easy work but i was doing it whole heartedly and my Boss appreciate my work.
One day He told me that, I will be collecting daily savings also. This is 31 days savings and the bank will take one day and the owner will go with 30 days savings. It sounds interesting to me because many in the market wanted me to do it for them.
The following morning as i went to the market, i Introduce this to my customers and they appreciated it and i went back with 200k the first day. My Boss was so happy but my salary remained the same. Lol
My work was going very well until my Boss join politics. I told Him that it will affect our business as He may not have enough time to record money and make accurate account. He said i should not worry. Little did i know that because of the money in the Bank, He thought that running a campaign is a childish play in Nigeria.
On August 2016, We can't not pay all our customers who have saved money with us. And he couldn't pay us salary. Hmmm, my reputation is at risk. He told me to manage the office, try to pay people from whatever i collected that soon everything will bounce back. Hehe, Snake is on the roof.
I paid , I paid until no money for me to pay again. People started to tell me, Is you Madam Uzomah we know. You are the one who introduced us to this thief and His Bank to us. If anything happens, we know you. OMG, my motivation for marketing went of. Sometimes He will not answer my calls. At a point He stopped coming to the office. 2 other marketers told me that they have plan on how to solve this problem. 3 months now, no salary..they said that we should collect all the loan money and pay ourselves but i didn't support the idea. They did it and left.
The day is becoming night and dark so fast for me as the pressure from people is becoming so much. One morning, I went to work only to see that the door was locked with another key. I call my Boss to tell Him, He told me I should find my way immediately or I will be arrested. Behold, while talking on phone 2 Men walked up to me and said, you are under arrest.
I tried to find out why but they said to me, when we reach station. It was like film to me but it is reality. My Boss Had parked out from the office and went into hiding and from that day till now, His number is switched off. All the keys of His house where I know is locked . It was a long story but let me stop here.
The lesson i learned from this bad experience.
I learn so much from it. First not all Microfinance Bank is out for business. Some registered to decieve people. Many have come and gone with people's money. After getting an amount they needed ,they close and put their marketers in trouble. I learn to be more smart whenever my business partner behavior changes from whom I use to know to a different person. I don't need question and answer before taking my leave .
I have learn that honesty pays all the time. When the matter was serious, people who knew me very well spoke favorably on behalf of me. I thought that i will sleep in the police station but i didn't and I moved freely because when i noticed changes in him my Boss, I explained the truth to my customers.
I did not run away but stood by them to see how I will get their money out. Many of them are still my friend today and we can do business together. Although I don't know whether my Boss is alive or not. I learn so much from Him.
