Last month, I shared about our walk in the grounds of the Stone Church or St. Mary the Virgin Church where I mentioned that there were Centennial Wheels seen in its compound. And they are what I'm writing about today.
The wheels are called such (Centennial) because per history, they date way back to 1904 and here's to quote the exact words on the plaque, re:
"The wheels used for this centennial marker was brought from the United States to Sagada as part of the sawmill project. It was discarded when the sawmill stopped operating and has been lying on the ground for almost a century. This wheel was salvaged for this marker to symbolize the ever rolling faith and commitment of the early missionaries to make known Christ's salvation in the remotest parts of the Philippine archipelago. It also symbolizes the spiritual and social transformation that has taken place in Sagada and other parts of the Philippines in the past 100 years as a result of Anglican mission work."
The wheels do have quite a significance in the history of the place. It is also worth-mentioning that people of the Mt. Province where Sagada is one of its towns are dominantly Episcopalian.
The marker is dated 11th October 2001 when the wheels were installed. It made me wonder if there had been any repairs done to them but I believe they may have been repainted somehow.
The sawmill wheels are a few meters apart and just beside the church and the compound lawn. You may observe on the photo below that there's almost no grass in front of it because it's where most people stand or walk along to take photos. And did you perhaps noticed the chicken too?😅

This is the other wheel, permanently cemented on its place. And as expected, the grass by around it are no more (well, almost hehe).
And the place seems to be animal-friendly 'coz there's another chicken!😅 I digressed but no kidding, we've also seen some cattle roaming around the small park in front of the Parish office.
Here's the view of the area via Pinmapple. A good place to relax a bit and just be and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. Perfect spot to sit and watch the sunset too.
