Discovering Decade-Old Wallets

Oh la la! It's Monday, whew! It's at least more productive, so yay!

All morning (starting at 10) was spent in the yard with some weeding, enjoying the cool breeze while selecting gravels I planned to put on the walkway towards the backyard. With the downpour yesterday, everything seemed clean and fresh. I liked it a lot and even lost track of time and only realized it was already 1 pm when I went inside after hearing Yongi's howl saying he was thirsty. Yep, he has his own way of letting us know what he wants, lol!

We skipped lunch (we usually do when the husband is away) and the Lil Guy curled up in bed after his bath. Me? Well, I did some minor edits on a few short videos then decided to reformat my decade-old laptop (Windows 7). But before doing so, I had a wee adventure - opening the drives, folders, and such.

I discovered some docx files containing a list of different wallet addresses, some with keys and seed phrases, others without. So I went ahead checking whether they had anything in them.

Starting with those on Dogechain, one had 1k+ DOGE but was already withdrawn, something I don't remember so I deleted it from the list.

Three still contained some DOGE (combined value is a little over $55 at the Memecoin's current price), none had been transferred. The wallets were created on Dogechain and I didn't retrieve my private keys before the wallet interface shut down last year. So all I have are wallet IDs and passwords which are useless now.

But yes, the transactions were way back in 2015 when I was still overseas, working 9-5 and claiming DOGE from various faucets. Here's one of them.

They were worth almost nothing 9-10 years ago but now have value more than enough for a day's meal.😁

Another find was a gatehub wallet containing 30 XRP (Ripple). My memory fails me on how I got into it but glad I have recorded the access info. However, the site freezes on logging in so couldn't go any further.

It is always nice to discover some forgotten riches, LOL🤣. It would be super exciting if one of the BTC wallets had sats in it. Then again, there is no turning back time. I am grateful for having experienced spending Bitcoin as a real digital cash (used to pay my bills, and even gambled some).

Anyhow, I'm yet to check all the files so I postponed reformatting. And since there was no way for me to get my hands on those I found today, I will keep the lists and maybe check them in 5-10 years. It will be interesting how things will change over time.
