Although I have taken plenty of pictures of the Northern Flicker in my old neighborhood, this is the first time they came to visit me at my new surrounding. They are my favorite visitors of all. I heard the distinctive calling in the front yard, and I came out with my camera as quiet as a mouse.
He was feeding in the grass, and barely bothered by my sneaky ninja hide-and-seek. He was quite aware of my presence but hunger was more pressing for him than worrying about me.
He gave me quite a few poses, back, front, and side! I love the heart shape in the back of his neck. Of course, the pattern feathers and dotted belly are quite fascinating too.
