You traveled for quite some time through space before arriving at what looked like an ice planet from above. There was not a single land mass down below that did not look like it was just covered in freezing ice.
You attempted to make landfall on the planet itself. Things at first seemed like they were going well. The planet however had different plans for you. At the time there was a powerful blizzard across the entire planet itself.
The computer found what seemed like the safest place to land. It was next to a cave network that you could go hide out in if needed. That seemed more than reason enough to head for that location.
The descent onto the planet itself was rather turbulent. Far more than you were expecting and it felt like it could have been not possible any worse. You landed with an unnerving crunch as a bunch of ice cracked.
(If you arrived here in an escape pod take this option. If you arrived on your normal ship continue going down below).
You got out so you could do some surveying putting on your suit which would keep you warm enough on this planet. You even found a hat you could wear so you could keep the somewhat bulky space helmet in your backpack.
The blizzard had mostly subsisted from this part of the planet. It seemed like it was heading north and growing in strength. You are somewhat glad you were not going to be stuck in your ship for the remainder of the day or even longer having to wait to explore the local area.
You noticed there was a set of caves not that far. While the snow was rather fresh and with each step you sank to your ankle. It was not going to stop you. You started walking towards the cave.
About halfway to the cave, you started to hear this massive cracking sound from behind you. You turned to see large cracks in the ice start to form around your ship. Within a blink of an eye, your entire ship was shallowed hole and sank into the ice. It was gone.
You then started to notice the cracks in the ice started to grow like they were charging at you like thunderbolts on the ground. You started rushing towards the cave itself. It was not long before you managed to outrun the cracking ice and were within the cave itself.
It was a bit warmer in the cave. It is also protected from the wind. Your heart sank thinking that you just lost your only ticket out of here. You needed a few minutes to recover before deciding what you were going to do next.
You could explore the cave, head north through a tundra, or head south though another tundra.
