Hello everyone! Today I would like to show you a collection of gesture drawings I have done from the book I have been following. I find everyday household items and draw them. My goal is to increase my confidence with the pencil strokes and accurately represent a three dimensional object on a two dimensional piece of paper. I am not worried about realism or shading for this I am more focused on the foundations of drawing that I can work from. The best way to improve at this is through lots of practice.
The drawing below is an ornament in my house of what looks like a man sitting down with a hat on. I like the drawing I captured in a few quick lines.
Below are several drawings of chess pieces. I wanted to practice drawing them at different angles to determine the correct perspective and foreshortening.
A quick drawing of the fireplace.
Using a mannequin I draw the human figure. This is to practice the human figure in various positions when a real model to draw from is not around while closely resembling it.
These are the same drawings however, this time I am practicing following the contour of the object I am drawing. This would explain the extra lines in the drawing.
A drawing of my little sister's cuddly toy that was lying around the house.
If you are drawing and don't always have a model I would encourage you to draw anything you can find as you will learn a lot from drawing any three dimensional objects. Drawing from photos can be good but I find it limits your artistic expression in certain ways when you don't have the foundations of drawing in place. In future, I plan on sharing more advanced gesture drawings, detailed final studies and move on to portraits and advanced watercolors.
