Today, I'm going to sieve through my following. I want to start all over again. But first, a little history
In The Beginning
When I first joined Steemit, I was hungry for engagement. I followed, commented, resteemed and upvoted indiscriminately. I wanted to be noticed. I wanted to connect. I wanted to be a part of the community.
After a few weeks, my orientation changed. This was partly I was struggling with bandwidth issues at some point. I became deliberate with my upvotes and followed sparingly. I still commented and resteemed a lot.
After a while, I grew tired of it all. I noticed folks mostly followed those with large Steempower, big posts payouts or who they knew personally.
Seeking Out Writers
At some point I realized doing what everyone else was doing wasn't going to work for me. It was at that time I began to focus on contests.
During that time, I was struggling with very low payouts. I needed to do something. I tried services that assured me of daily upvotes. I didn't like some of the rules, like having to upvote other folks or submit posts and all. Even more, the profits were always too little.
With contests, things became better. Usually, the contest host would upvote and resteem your entry. That way, I got more exposure and upvote on my post. Add that to the winnings I got some times and life became easier. As a bonus, 
Only catch was that I had to resteem the contest post and follow the hosts. That was fair though.
Now: Information Entertainment and Engagement
I rarely go through my feed as its populated by folks I followed because I had to. Some are contests hosts. Others are friends.
Recently, I have come across steemians who I really want to engage with. I enjoy their content. They are quite informative too.
And that's why I going to unfollow a lots of folks today. Those who remain are those whose contents I really enjoyed.
