A fetus doesn't seem like it should technically count as a moral or legal actor, so I can't justify calling it murder or a crime.
Don't get started. Just don't.
Personally, I believe life begins at conception. Any other idea will create a lot of problems: philosophically, medically, morally, politically....
Does that mean I endorse murder? I feel bad but yes, I do. However, deciding someone gets to live or not is equivalent to playing God so I take it very seriously.
I wish abortion wasn't even an option. But it is. Even nature employs it (miscarriage). Between last exchange and now, I've been thinking (and even reading). I realise some of my arguments for abortion aren't foolproof. My conscience was cruel on me last night. it went something like:
Poverty: if it's valid reason to kill babies then maybe poor people should be killed too. Hell, it means Thanos is sorely needed.
Deformity: Then mentally and physically disabled people should be killed too. Let's start with the girl with down syndrome on my street, the blind friend I used to have in school and the deformed dwarf who was a deformed colleague in school.
Wild nights: If every unplanned pregnancy was aborted, and the abortion was recorded, I'm sure it would be bigger than all the deaths from both World Wars. Abortion actually makes the baby suffer for the mother's indiscretion. Capital punishment without fair trial for an act she's innocent of and couldn't prevent. Plus, it could also incentivize wild nights. Activities with no repercussions.
Does this change my stance on abortion, not really. It just makes life more difficult for me. (The same result from interacting with your pro-vegan posts. I still eat meat. But sometimes I feel guilty. Maybe I should stop reading your thoughts 🤔)
So my judgment is more for the set of behavior that culminates in abortions happening, more than I judge the choice of taking the pill after you get to that point.
I agree. Humans are irresponsible. We are always looking for ways to afford consequences. When we succeed, it makes us even more irresponsible and we seek new ways to avoid increased consequences.
It's beyond abortion. Most people want greater control of their life. They fail to realize that the more control you want, the more you should restrict yourself. You can't party all night and expect to be in charge of your morning. There are consequences to every action.
Alright. I think I've had enough food for thought to last a week.
