I am no advice guru, so I'm not here to teach you how to overcome your sadness. I'm here to write about my own experience. I can't explain why I feel a little more sadness when the holiday season is near. I'm talking about the Christmas holidays. Whereas everyone gets busy writing gift lists, planning parties, and attending festivities, I feel like crawling into one corner and shutting out the world.
Strange feeling since I don't know where it's coming from. I honestly don't have sad memories of the season. We are not that well-off, but we were never scarce. I suppose it's not a question of material wealth.
So, where is the sadness coming from? I sincerely do not know. Perhaps, it's some planetary alignment (or mis-alignment? - if there is such a thing). One thing is for sure, when I fight the feeling, it gets stronger. So, I just acknowledge it and let the tears flow. Then, not long after, the sadness is gone. I sure don't like it creeping up on me from time to time. At least now, I have a better idea on how to manage and process it. Funny, it reminds me of the movie "Inside Out." (If you haven't seen it, please do.)
Perhaps one reason I'm feeling sad is that today, November 26th, is my late dad's birthday, if he were still alive. He would have been 75. He passed on two months after his 65th birthday. I can't believe it has been that long. How fast time flew by! In some ways, I miss him, but I know that he is in a better place, and that his lessons and his memory will always be with me.
