I asked myself, 'what action did I take that changed my life?' Got some random answers. So again I asked, 'from when I noticed I became a changed person?' Then I got a certain answer.
It may sound silly to you but my breakup teaches me many things. It was like 20 years ago, I almost forget about that girl, got over the situation long ago. But after that, I took some action and I think that helped me a lot to change myself in a better way.
I'm not bringing anything personal here. So without going into detail about what happened, let's talk about how I felt.
After my breakup, I felt emotionally fragile. I became numb, I felt like lost my connection with the world. I didn't act like a child, was doing my daily activities normally. But I missed the connection. It was like I became a zombie. It took me almost a year to put myself together.
After that, I realized like can't go that way. So I learned to become emotionally resilient. It was hard for me, I didn't know many things, where to start, what can help me. Back then, the internet was not this available. So I was looking for help. I was a student, couldn't afford therapy. Fortunately, one of my friends who was studying 'psychology' at the university helped me with some study materials. Now it sounds silly but it helped me a lot to understand what is going on inside my brain.
I start to-
- Reconnect with my friends and family.
- Try to build trust again.
- Open up about my mental health condition.
- Set life goals and work on them.
- Reconnect with my inner self.
- Learn about emotions, how to regulate them properly.
There were so many other tiny steps.
What helped me most is, finding myself again, reminding myself that the world doesn't end here. When gradually I start to put myself together I felt a lot better.
So yes, emotional resilience is the one thing that changed me in a good way.
I still sometimes feel like, I will fall apart. But it's true that I learned to put things back together.
I don't know if I'm too late answering this @ecotrain's question, just found it yesterday. The question seemed quite interesting. So even if it's late, I intend to answer it.
I wouldn't say, what I did to change my life would help everyone. But if only a person finds this helpful, that would be enough for me. Moreover, it's my pleasure to express my experience.
