I can't believe that I stopped blogging for 15 days. Life's busyness had cropped in and with school holidays around, I chose to put this aside blogging first to spend quality time with family and also to look into house matters. However, daily curating work still ongoing. Here I am, back to sharing my life!

Saturday Lunch at Aunt's!

Every Saturday, as usual, I will visit my Aunt together with the children if they are well and healthy. We love to pay her a visit — always a great time together to chit chat, as well as eating home-cooked food by my Aunt.

Last Saturday, she cooked for us non-Chinese food. She said she usually cooked this for the expatriates family she worked with last time, except that the family ate these dishes with mashed potatoes, we ate with rice, our staple food. She cooked for us baked chicken with potatoes, mushroom omelette with steamed pumpkin and tomatoes.

Baked Chicken with Potatoes

This was a dish loved by the expatriates families, according to my Aunt. They even requested her to bake the chicken by using our Chinese kitchen condiments like soy sauce and oyster sauce. My Aunt would pan fry the chicken first to create a crust on the outer layer, followed by baking the chicken. While baking, she would prepare the sauce by using garlic and onion, sautéed on the same pan she used to panfry the chicken, added in some soy sauce and oyster sauce, then poured unto the chicken dish after done baking. This was such an appetizing meal. The chicken was perfectly cooked, a little crust on the outer layer and juicy soft meat on the inside. The boys love love love the sauce.

Mushroom omelette and steamed pumpkin and tomatoes

She used total of 8 eggs to cook the mushroom omelette. She used enoki mushrooms and button mushrooms that had been diced, and cooked with egg which had been seasoned with salt and pepper. Very delicious to eat this omelette together with the steamed pumpkin. The natural sweetness of the pumpkin greatly compliment the savoury mushroom omelette.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. After lunch, we still had some time, I helped her washed the dishes, while she dried them to keep at her floor cabinet.

We hung around to chit chat. The boys love the eat sweets here because they rarely ate at home. My Aunt also got me a very beautiful Chinese New Year plate, a free gift after she purchased Quakers oats. Thank you, Aunt for your love and kindness!

Sunday Lunch at Nanyang Chicken Rice

After church, I was craving for chicken rice, so I suggested a new place to try. However, one of the church members mentioned that the chicken rice was a little undercooked. For that reason, we decided to try our luck at another chicken rice shop which is same row with the new chicken rice shop. This one called Nanyang Chicken rice, famous for its delicious roasted pork belly, BBQ pork and also delicious roasted chicken and poached chicken. I mentioned trying our luck because it was always packed and crowded and with long queue.

We were lucky to have seats. But unfortunately, all the pork dishes and wonton sold out, left only homemade fishballs and chicken breast. Oh well, what to do.

We ordered one chicken rice, one soup fishballs noodle and one dry chicken noodle. Still very delicious to us. I almost wanted to order another plate of chicken rice because it was yummy but I resisted my desire.

My husband was still on no-carbs diet so he ordered a quarter chicken, and he gave me some too knowing I was still abit hungry.

It was a great weekend, to rest and unwind. I love to visit my Aunt who stays alone. And I especially love to gather with people to worship and to be blessed by God's Words. Indeed, I count myself blessed in many ways and I am grateful for that.
