When all of us were clueless where to go for family dinner, my husband would end up choosing this place, a restaurant he grew up eating during his teenager's time, if I remembered correctly. When we heard that it reopened after the lockdown, we were so happy. It is also situated at where he grew up, certainly a place close to his heart. They served very delicious food at super reasonable and affordable price.

Sri Niara Seafood

Location: NO.14 & 16, Jalan 5/4c, Desa Melawati, 53100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

Surprisingly, the restaurant had become cleaner and brighter after the reopening. I remembered years ago when I came, it was very dimly litted. It is a two-shoplots made into one restaurant, with sufficient chairs and tables for big crowd, no air-conditioning but cool enough with ample fans. Let's move on straight to the food we ordered!

Food we ordered

1) Steamed barramundi with lime

This one is highly recommended by the waiter who helped us to place order. He did say it would be spicy because it was cooked in Thai-style using bird's eye chilli. So we opted out the chilli despite he kept telling us it would not be as nice. We did not mind at all as long the boys got to enjoy the fish. It turned out super tasty and flavourful. I got to say this — the fish was pleasantly super fresh. And the chef added in more shredded cabbages to replace the chillies. The sauce wasbso delicious, we literally soaked our rice with it. Yumss!!!

2) Stir fry chicken with cashew nuts

This was slightly pepperish but was super delicious too. Enough heat from the wok to fry the chicken and cashew nuts together, giving the chicken dish a nutty flavour, and tasty sauces used for it. Every bite was satisfying. The chicken meat was soft too.

3) Fluffy Crispy Omelette

This was not the usual omelette we cooked at home. We called this 'telur dadar' in Malay. Whenever I am at Malay shop, I must order the omelette dish because it is different to chinese way of cooking omelette. Layer on, I found out, the oil used to fry this must be alot and very hot. Eggs also were beaten well with seasoning such as fish sauce and other secret ingredients before added into the wok filled with oil. Crispy on the outer layer and fluffy on the inside was that sort of texture of eggs which made me fell in love in very bite, so to speak. I could eat two to three 'telur dadar. Haha!

Mixed vegetables

A basic vegetable dish we always ordered when we were out for dinner because we got to eat different types of vegetables. However, the one here only consisted of cabbage, carrot and greens. Not much variety and the portion was small so I didn't eat so that enough for the boys.

Drinks

Husband and I ordered our favourite pulled milk tea, and the boys ordered watermelon juice and apple juice. Slurp refreshing drink. I love 'teh tarik' cheers with husband.

While waiting for the food to be served, that was our precious time to chit chat and catch up. The eldest also brought along his schoolwork to do, one worksheet only. And he finished it in no time. The youngest one felt slightly agitated here and there due to cats which walked nearby us a few times. He still had not overcome his cat phobia due to past incident of a cat being thrown at him by one of his cousins (young boy who did not yet understand) and the cat in defence screamed and sratched him. Poor boy. He used to love cat alot! We pray he will love cat once again after overcoming the cat phobia. Nevertheless, we had a lovely dinner and our hearts were filled with thanksgiving.
