The Boden's mate pattern usually occurs after queenside castling. It is characterized by a king being mated by two bishops on criss-crossing diagonals, with possible flight squares blocked by friendly pieces. It was named after Samuel Boden who won a friendly game in 1853 using the mating pattern.
