Greetings everyone
Dear friends how are you?. Thank you Cross Culture Community. Keris is one of the cultural heritages of Javanese society. The Keris is a distinctive asymmetrical dagger from Indonesia.
As both a weapon and an heirloom, the keris is believed to prossess magical powers. The keris is thought to have originated from the island of Java and spread throughout Southerast Asia. The keris Blade is usually wide and asymmetrical.
The sheath is often Made of wood, although some are Made of ivory, even gold. The aesthetic value of the Keris includes the dhapur (Shape and design of the Blade, with around 40 variants), pamor (ornamental pattern of metal Alloy on the Blade, with around 120 variants) and tough referring to the age and original of the Keris.
A master crafts a Keris Blade consisting of different layers of iron ore and meteorite nickel. A high-quality Keris Blade is the result of meticulously forget metal folded dozens to hundreds of times.
An Empu (master craftsman) is a respected craftsman know for his knowledge of literature and history, as well as his spirituality. The Keris is used for both everyday use and special traditional events or ceremonies, as an heirloom, the Keris is passed down from generation to generation.
Both men and women can wear the Keris, although their physical characteristic differ. Although there are still craftsmen actively making high-quality Keris using traditional methods on several islands in Indonesia, their numbers are very small.
Even fewer are the younger generation who are willing to pass on these Keris making skills.
Thank you very much.
Congratulations and always success, God bless you
