This word expectation is a very scary word. It can really cause things to go either really good or really bad if not properly managed. This not just happens at the workplace but in fact all walks of life.
Expectation when you expect less than what the result is, you become very happy because things went above your expectation. On the other side of the spectrum, when we expect more from something but we get less, frustration sets in.
And this is where calibration of expectation comes in. The level setting of expectation is very important, especially at the workplace. To prevent misunderstanding and disappointment, the key is to level set everyone what is the potential outcome so that supervisors will know what is on the ground and employees know what their supervisors want. Upon coming to a consensus, it will aid everyone in terms of measuring how they do when the result comes.
Remember, if you have yet to do a calibration of expectations with your bosses, please do so soon before big upsets or disappointment come your way.
