FB-3300: a free Korg PS-3300 monster synth for your DAW
Here is a big one for tonight. FB-3300 by Full Bucket Music is a free emulation of the Korg PS-3300, a giant polyphonic analog synth from 1977 that only about 50 units ever got made of. The original was basically three Korg PS-3100 synths bolted together with a mixer, and it cost a fortune, which is why almost nobody ever got to play one. Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk and Aphex Twin are among the few who did.
The plugin copies that whole beast: three independent polyphonic synth blocks, each with its own oscillator, two-pole lowpass filter, resonators, modulation generators and envelope, plus a semi-modular patch system that lets you cross-wire blocks into each other. Add the micro-tuning options and the sample and hold section and you have a machine built for huge evolving pads, weird retro sound effects and thick analog textures. It comes with over 50 presets to get you started, and no registration or activation is needed. It is free, full stop, with an optional donation if you want to support the developer.

If you like your synths huge, analog and a little bit unhinged, this one is worth the five minutes it takes to install. No ROMs, no dongles, no catch, just a free slice of one of the rarest synths ever built.
