ASYX by Isla Electronics

Okay, this one got my attention fast. ASYX from Isla Electronics is a software recreation of the Alesis Andromeda A6, and if you have ever priced a working Andromeda on the used market, you know why a plugin version matters. This is the big one: 16 voices, 16-part multitimbral operation, and a signal path that does not apologize for being deep.

Under the hood you get two oscillators per voice with sub oscillators, sync, FM, and ring modulation, feeding a dual filter section that pairs an Oberheim SEM style 12 dB multimode filter with a Moog style 24 dB lowpass filter. You can run those filters in series or in parallel, which is where the fun starts for industrial sounds. Stack a biting bandpass texture against a thick lowpass drone in the same patch and let them fight a little.

The modulation side is just as serious. Three seven-stage envelopes and three LFOs per voice, plus a deep routing matrix, a 16-step sequencer, an arpeggiator, and 29 built-in effects. There is also an Analogue control that dials in voice variation for tuning, filters, envelopes, and drift, so it does not sound like a perfectly clean clone. It ships with more than 1,200 programs, including the original factory sounds and artist banks, and it can import original A6 SysEx patches. If you actually own an Andromeda, it even works as a two-way editor for the hardware, which is a lovely touch.

For my money, this is the kind of synth you buy for the long haul. It is not a one-trick preset machine. It is a deep instrument you can live inside for months, and the Andromeda architecture gives you exactly the kind of huge, slightly unruly analog character that industrial tracks love.

Price: $99 intro price (99 EUR, down from 149 EUR until November 5), perpetual licence for up to 3 computers, AU/VST3/standalone on macOS and Windows.
