I had just finished my senior secondary school and I had to look for something doing to help my dad and siblings as much as I can. You know, I was one person that just hated being idle, I love getting myself busy with something industrious. I became an adult that year, so dad allowed me to find something to do. Lucky me, I had a neighbor I always assisted in taking care of her child while she did some chores at home and I was also her hairstyle.
There was this faithful day, she decided to ask me how come I was so good at fixing hairs. She was surprised to know that I didn't learn the skill and while we were still chatting she told me of her elder sister who has a hair salon and she asked if I was interested in going to work with her. I was so happy that offer came and I didn't even think twice before saying yes to the offer. She promised to get back to me immediately she tells her sister about me.
Later that evening, she called me and told me that her sister agreed and she says I could even resume the next day. I told my dad and my siblings about the job offer that I got and they agreed I should take the offer too. I was so happy I was going to actually start working at a salon because that has always been my dream to make hair do for more people outside those I know personally.
My first day at the work, my boss had some really interesting neighbors and lucky me they all liked me even though it was the first time they saw me. I actually tried my best to be in my best behavior because I don't want my boss to have any reason to get tired of me. I got my first client at the salon that day, my boss had asked me to make a simple all back weaving for the client and she will be the one to sew in a weavon for her.
I was not good at weavons, I majored in making braids and other styles, sewing weavons was my major challenge in hair styling. Well, I had the opportunity to learn a little from my boss because she was super good at making weavons. The only problem I had was, at the time when I started working with her, a lot of people that came to make their hair only wanted braids and other styles not weavons.
Either ways I was just happy I still got the opportunity to make hair do for people and got paid for it. I also had some co-workers at the salon and I was obviously better than them at what I do but then they were my seniors and I didn't want to get on the nerves of anyone. I had to make friends with them and try to be humble as possible and lucky me it worked! They loved the fact that they had a coworker like me because I always made sure to be of help as much as I could.
Most of the clients we had while I was working there appreciated my work, in fact there were some days when they had to wait for me to finish with another client so I can be the one to make their hair for them, they think the other girls are too clumsy with how they manage their hair. That made me proud of myself to an extent and also gave me more reasons to do better at what I do. I always made sure to go home and try to search for what was new so I can always give the best to our clients and my boss loved and appreciated me for that.
