A lot of persons find me to be very hardworking even to a fault and I don’t blame them for that. To them, they see someone who enjoys to work so much but for me, it feels more like a responsibility I have to own up to. As a young girl, I saw my dad doing literally all the chores in the house and he never complains about it at all. Because of just that single fact, something in me loved it and tried to become like him or even more than him. I wanted to be of good assistance to him. If for anything, at least to give him more time to rest once he gets back from work after an exhausting day.
Watching my dad doing so much even after having a long day at work made me interested in learning about anything that has to do with taking care of a home and even myself. I enjoyed learning hacks on how to do things for myself and one important thing that I have learnt to do that I should normally consider employing the help of a professional is how to make my hair do myself. Well, it doesn’t always look professional but I try. At least I have gotten really good compliments from people about some of them.
Do I enjoy making my hair myself? Simple answer will be yes. But if I want to give a complete explanation, it will seem like a no, lol. Making my hair myself gives me the assurance that everything is done right. I carry my natural hair and if you know, natural hairs need an extra care when taking down or making a new one. Most times when I employ the help of a supposed professional, I always end up regretting it and I guess because of that single reason, I have grown fond of making my hair do myself.
Is it easy? Not at all. Making my hair myself is not easy, in fact, it is frustrating. I remember there was one time I was half way done making my hair but I wished someone else was. My hands were feeling numb and heavy. But whenever I’m successful with any hair do, I feel so proud and satisfied that I forget that I had a time when my hands even felt numb.
Will I want to keep it going? Yes! Although, for the past few months, I have found a professional who has managed to gain my trust but then, I’ll be moving away from where I am soon, so, I’ll be going back to making my hair do myself again. This time, I plan to do it for a while because I want my hair to grow better. Most of these professionals don’t know the difference between a natural hair and a relaxed hair, they are just good at making beautiful styles but don’t really care if their hands were too tight or not.
Yes, I’ll employ their hands some times but it won’t be as often as it has been these past few months. I want to also get use to making different styles on my hair myself and the only way I can achieve that is if I spend more time doing it. So, yes, I’ll continue doing this for as long as I can. It will be fun to actually care for my hair and watch it grow beautiful again.
Of course, there are so many other things that I can do myself without really needing the help of a professional because I’m one myself. And right now, I’m still planning on learning some more skills that will also limit my need for professionals in different areas of life. Generally, it’s fun to keep learning things and realising how much it has lifted the burden of always needing help to achieve certain tasks.
I can organise a space myself, cook myself, do my laundry even more than a professional, hehe. I can also amend tears on my clothes, crochet some little things, and so much more that I’m even yet to discover. To add, I always like to believe that I can do anything I set my mind to. It’s just a matter of time. But regardless of all that, I try to balance knowing when I truly need help from a professional and doing it myself just because I can.
