I haven't had as much time as I'd like for music. Huh. There's something I never thought I'd say. But over the past couple of weeks, I've been choosing silence and meditation more in the places where music might've normally gone. Still, I want to do #threetunetuesday today, this lovely project by the equally lovely @ablaze.
An opportunity to talk about the random tunes I love? Why the hell not? It saves a lot of innocents in my everyday life circle (which is more of a triangle drawn by someone who sucks at geometry) from listening to me ramble on about them. So here we go.
I used to have such a crush on this guy when I was a teenager. He was in some fantasy YA movie or something, and I thought he was the best thing on Earth. Short-lived, but he drifted back to my attention about a year ago with this. I didn't know he could sing, but I'm glad I do now. He's very emotional, but has a sort of raspy voice that contrasts that.
Anyway, it helped me when I was feeling a little stuck, or paralysed. It's the sort of music you wanna pirouette to, and I'm always a fan of those. I like music that makes you feel graceful, and that's what this song is for me. It vanished from mind for a few months and I recently ran back into it, so it's been in my playlist.
Isn't this the guy who did the Lucifer soundtrack?
Kinda why I clicked. That, and Medium Build being something very rare in his own right. This one's been on repeat in my head for the past few days, this particular version. There's something about these two voices that meshes beautifully.
So put on that demo tape,
let that shit play,
Feels like yesterday
I'm not a fan of feeling like yesterday. I see it as escapism, and not living in the moment, not being present, and that's a recipe for "I coulda been better" in the future. But I love this because it's a love song, and I really don't think we have enough songs/stories about friendship. It's actually a bookish fantasy of mine, an epic that's powered by friendship, not gooey romance.
Speaking of love songs for friends, this dude. This guy has a little over 1k subscribers on Youtube. Should have 100k, in my opinion. He's got something soft and raspy and intimate about his voice, particularly on this tune. I like the promise in his voice. Like a call to adventure.
I actually found this randomly, listening to the previous track. I love when that happens, particularly when it's a smaller artist. It's kinda like the beginning of a love story.
It's 3 tunes, except I don't know how to count, alright?
Circling back to X Ambassadors (and yes, I know I was talking about Teddy last week, too), this is what I switch to when I need a break from listening to the other three tracks.
And I tried and I tried
To tell myself, just give it time
But these tears never ever dry
Good lord I feel like I’m just fading
How do you write a tune so soulful and uplifting? Seriously. It's a song about depression and heartbreak that makes me wanna dance. And these guys...
Listening to this is going from "this guy's great" to "this guy's also amazing". You know how sometimes you listen to a collab for one artist, and are mostly like, yeah this other person's nice, but I'll prolly not listen to anything from them ever again though? Here, you don't know which one to flow with faster.
This week's happy tunes. Mostly. Or uplifting tunes. To me, at least. Thank you @ablaze. As ever-always.
Hi. Bye. Nice seeing you.
