Seems to me you've misunderstood my point. I'm not threatened by girly men, or by manly women, or anything else. The question was why all the pressure on women to be independent, career-oriented and abhor the idea of family?
I completely agree, people should be whatever they want to be. Only trouble is, this thinking doesn't seem to go both ways in our clever, tolerant new world, and that's a problem, in my view. For instance, if a man decides he wants to be girly, or even to be a woman, that's his choice. But then society comes and tells you, you know, you now have to want to sleep with this woman, and some men will have a problem with that. But what happened with their right of saying no?
Women are encouraged, in our liberal world, to have abortions and to focus on their career. And that's totally fine if that's what you want, but if you don't, the people around you say you're bowing down to the patriarchy. What about her choice to be who she wants to be? You see what I mean?
My complaint wasn't with the people who want to be different, but with the fact that nowadays, everyone is pressured to be that way, and personally, I think that takes away from it a great deal, you know? I'd be just as bothered if all women were pressured to be feminine, or if all men were pressured to be manly. I agree this used to be a problem, once, but not anymore. Society isn't telling them to be that way, because it's now telling them to be the other way around.
Personally, I don't want to tell men or women how they should be. It's our very society that allegedly celebrates certain identities while putting down others that's telling them how to be, and yes, that I take issue with.
In any case, these are just some of my observations, as a woman, about the way I feel society treats me and people around me. To quote someone completely insane, if my blog isn't your cup of tee, move on to someone who is ;)
