The only thing that I really want to improve in the Emperor (he is certainly not getting any new clothes) is the Coherence of the face, and the detail contained therein. I am otherwise pretty happy with the image that I am starting out with.
Here's the starting image:
And now, I'm going to run it through GFPGAN a few times in order to clean up those details in the face, and add some more resolution, generally, speaking to the rest of the image.
This is done in individual steps, layering on the script again and again.
Here's what that progression ends up looking like:
The first pass cleans it up a little bit, but it still looks like there are some swimming goggle indents around his face.
The second pass reduces this a little, and sharpens up the beard considerably. That's good news.
And this is the final point, where there's a bit of a loss of processing time to final result being noticeably better, so that's where I will be ceasing the pursuit of perfection. It is good to have some imperfections, makes it look more human.
This was an easy one. The next one is probably not going to be as such, as the underlying concept is much more complex visually. Look forward to starting to cull those images soon!
