I really believe the solution would be RC delegations, SMTs and the removal of downvotes. I think Yaba put it best by comparing Steem to wordpress. Steem isn't suppose to be one big social media site like Twitter or even Medium, but rather the foundation for the creation of communities all over the web.

In the not so distant future I believe we will find many communities using the Steem blockchain and at that time downvotes will be a major liability. Right now we already see abusers of the downvoting feature, imagine what democrats and republicans will do to each other. The idea that people would use downvotes for a moral good is a dreamy idea, but its not how things will likely go. Battling for Steem rewards by actively upvoting what you believe in is much more peaceful than downvoting what you don't believe in.

I urge the witnesses to think carefully about what atmosphere they want to exist on the internet, because Steem just might become that influential. I am confident that you will find mainstream media using downvotes as a new method for demonetizing contrary viewpoints. Worse than that, I suspect you will see hordes of downvote mobs rush into communities they are not involved in just to harass and demonetize them.

Maybe, just maybe, we should look into making posting more RC expensive. I'm also not opposed to raising the curation revenue, but I'd rather it was taken from the SP staked rewards. This way the investors are still getting the same amount of earnings, only, they have to be actively upvoting to enjoy them.
