Hi, carolkean@carolkean
It's a complex loss. We have been losing loved ones to migration/exile. Most of them do not plan to return, some of them have died in exile, and yet some cannot return even if they wanted to. I have not seen two of my children for four years now and even though we keep in touch, that touch has gradually faded, the reasons for the departure remain and the difficulties for a reunion persist.
They keep inspiring; they give us strength on a good day, but boy do we have bad days!
And we know they have them too. It's not easy to me a migrant, especially these days; especially when your fellow country men/women have fled by the millions. Host countries end up hating your kind. They could not care less about your motivations.
It's an almost fatal scenario, especially now that life for those who stayed has become more fragile, futile, ephemeral.
