From a movie called "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass", Phu Yen immediately caught my attention and made me want to visit. I believe a lot of travelers have no idea about it. The beauty of Phu Yen lies in its lack of commercialization, and that is what makes it so special to me. That tranquility and peace make this a unique and wonderful place to visit. Whether you love the forest, the sea, the pristine islands, or have an endless passion to explore the idyllic life, this beautiful place can make you satisfied.
Located in central Vietnam, the capital of Phu Yen is Tuy Hoa city which is 1,160km from Hanoi capital, 560km from Ho Chi Minh City and 438km from Da Nang. With 3 sides facing the mountains, the average temperature is 26 C which is kind of perfect for people who don't like cold weather. There are many beautiful roads in Phu Yen. It can be a road with one side stretching along the coast, or a straight road with two sides of grassland and the cows family grazing.

There are 2 seasons: wet and dry, so the best time to visit Phu Yen is during its dry season which is from January to August. This place has 4 mineral hot springs, making it a good choice for anyone who gets aching muscles after a long wandering day. I personally love the feeling of being immersed in a hot pool after long days sitting on the saddle of a motorbike. Hot mineral water here is derived from nature which is good for health and make us feel so relax.

On our 1st day, we spent the whole day to visit O Loan Lagoon, 22 km away from city center. This is a brackish lagoon located right under Quan Cau Pass, with a beautiful view from above with a wide lake, green sugarcane fields on the low rolling hills. Along the water are golden sand beaches and casuarina forests. It's now become more popular after the movie "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass" released. If you want to see how stunning Phu Yen is, I highly recommend watching that movie.
Since this is a fishing village, the seafood in O Loan Lagoon is incredibly fresh and famous. There are many houseboats which currently are changed in to eateries. Being able to sit on the floating house while the cool wind blowing was an interesting experience. It is well worth trying when you stop here.
With the vast coastline stretching for more than 100 km, Phu Yen has many awesome pristine beaches. Since each of them has its own beauty, our 3-day, 2-night trip was not long enough for us to explore all the wonder of this central land.
We visited Dai Lanh light house on the second day, this can't be missed in the list of place to visit in Phu Yen. As the easternmost point of Vietnam, here is the perfect place to watch the first sunrise in the morning. Once you arrive, you will have two options to reach the lighthouse, which are either walking along the nearby stream or climbing the mountain.
We chose to climb because when climbing these stone steps we can still see the surrounding scenery while crossing the stream seems a bit more strenuous and dangerous.
Da Dia Reef is another special place in Phu Yen. The stone slabs here have a square shape, similar to a hexagon, and they are mostly stacked on top of one another. Because the arrangement is so perfect, many people still mistakenly believe that the stacked rocks here are man made. However, they are actually the gift of nature for this central land. We also stopped by another lighthouse called Ganh Den which was on the way. Because the road to this place is quite difficult, it still has the rustic charm of a wilderness.
Food is also a highlight of Phu Yen, especially seafood. In fact, it is cooked simply and doesn't require any fancy techniques or spices, but it's still delicious leaves a memorable taste. It is just like the people and the natural beauty of Phu Yen, holding tourists back because of the most simple things.
Thank you for reading! It's just a walk to my memory, I'm missing Viet Nam so bad, but currently due to the pandemic I can't come back, hopefully everything will be back to normal and we're allowed to travel soon!
