Welcome to our future paradise
One dream I have is living in a home within my farm with abundant resources where I won't be worrying about where I can find my food.
Slowly I am moving towards that dream.
The year 2015, I started my first job at Kiamba District Hospital, a 2-hour drive away from where I am staying now. It wasn't much for an income but I started to plant 50 pieces of Calamansi Trees at our farm in Katanggawan. It was a struggle for us to maintain the plant because the water there is scarce. We need to get water pail by pail since we are far from the irrigation. Now I have only 10 Calamnsi trees thriving giving is their best fruits now and then. Here is a picture of my now adult Calamnsi Trees.
Then as the years pass by, after I worked in Qatar as a Private Duty Nurse, I decided to try farming while working as a full-time nurse here in the Philippines. With the help of our caretaker, we planted Okra aka Ladyfingers, and Sitaw aka String beans since as they claimed it is what they are knowledgeable. They knew of inorganic farming where they use fertilizers that are chemically made, it wasn't a bad idea since it could generate a good income but I find it unhealthy.
Then I started to do some research with my mentor, on Organic Farming. Good timing since my mother wanted to farm Ampalaya aka Bittergourd and Okra, I wanted to prove that Organic Farming has a better yield and is more healthy. So I am making these fertilizers that can be also seen on youtube, Facebook pages that we join in, and online discussions in zoom meetings. We also use vermitea that can be derived from vermicast that has undergone a process of fermentation.
See how beautiful they are. :) We had plenty of harvests but sad to say, due to the scarcity of water and this pandemic (because of their need for my service), I hadn't had much time to monitor them. So they wilted early and the harvest halted.
Now, I am focusing on how to provide and maintain the availability of water and by God's graces with the help of trading in cryptocurrency I had the finances to start putting up water in our area, and soon God willing, proper piping and drip method may be provided for our farm.
Lastly, I would still love to continue farming in an Organic way. By the way, we also have peppers and we just harvested yesterday. Hoping we have buyers, but Oh, we might as well enjoy it with our recipe dynamite (Pepper with cheese inside wrapped in popiah)
PS: I started planting Calamnsi Tree again :)
