I welcome you to the fourth edition of the New Garment Series. titled: "Garment of Prayer."

Last week, we looked at the "Garment of Praise" as an act of respect and thanksgiving to God at all times, in season and out of season. Praise reminds us of the goodness of God. Here is the link in case you missed last week's edition.

4. Garment of Prayer

Prayer is the communication with God. Prayer helps to build our relationship with God. The same way our human relationship with others bond over time through communication, prayer strengthens our connection to God.

Garment of prayer is about having a deeper prayer life with God. It ensures victory and brings the promises of God to manifestation in our lives. Beloved of God, if we must attain those new heights of possibilities this year; we must ensure to put on the right attitude to prayer. We must therefore ensure that our spiritual life is alive and alert through the use of prayer.

Types of Prayer

The various types of prayer can be summarised into four(4) from Jesus' teaching on prayer.

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."
He said to them, " When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from the evil one."

Luke 11:1-4

  1. Prayer of Adoration
  2. Prayer of Petition (for spiritual needs and for physical needs.)
  3. Prayer of Supplication (Intercessory Prayer)
  4. Prayer of Thanksgiving.

Briefly, I would like us to take a closer look at the second and third types of prayer. The first and the last types have been treated in depth under the Garment of Praise.

Prayer of Petition

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.

Philippians 4:6

The prayer of petition is asking or put succinctly; is communicating with Jehovah Jireh( the Lord our provider) to meet with our needs, both spiritual needs and physical needs.

"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Luke 11:9-10

The prayer of petition is often referred to as the prayer of faith.

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Matthew 21:22

Your spiritual needs include prayer of daily confession and consecration(that is; to be set apart by God for His purpose.)

Prayer of Supplication

The prayer of supplication is commonly called intercessory prayer. It is all form similar to the prayer of petition; only that you ask and commune with Jehovah Jireh to with meet the needs of others, to intervene in the salvation of other, and in the affair of your country and/or other countries.

Prayer of supplication is standing in the gap as a point of contact for others.

Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died - more than that, who was raised to life - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Roman 8:34

If Jesus, sitting the right hand of God could still intercede for mankind after all He went through, how about us interceding for the needs of others. For the lost souls to receive salvation through the grace that has been made available to all men.

How Should We Pray?

The question of how we ought to pray has been answered by Jesus' teaching on prayer in the gospel of Luke 11:1-4

It is important to stress that we must pray with humility and be generous too, by praying for others as well.
Don't pray like the Pharisee who only prayed about himself with an open display of self righteousness as given in the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18:9-14

When Should We Pray?

Do you remember the the song; "Prayer is the Key"

Prayer is the key.... 2ce
Prayer is the master key
Jesus started with prayer & ended with prayer
Prayer is the master key.

We as Christian must emulate Jesus principle of prayer. Start each new day with thanksgiving and prayer and end it with thanksgiving and prayer.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kind of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:18

Jesus teaches that we should always pray and not give up.

Garment of prayer is a necessity for the lives of every Christian that truly seek new heights in this year.

Are you ready to rule your world on your knees at the place of prayer? Then put on the garment of prayer!

Those who kneel before God in prayers at the corner of their rooms don't bow before mere men in the public
