I got an orange-brown wig recently and I have imagined it in my head to look so good on me. Along with a peach makeup, that's gonna be bomb! Then, I tried it on and I was surprised to see it looked weird on me.
Color theory is so complicated. I would describe my skin as warm golden olive and I have noticed that any peach or slightly warm color that I wear will become orange or too warm on me. Anything that's too warm looks off. That is so noticeable in makeup and apparently in hair color as well.
This orange-brown wig I guess is more of a dark rust in person. When I wore it, it looked very orange and I think I looked "dirty". I don't even know what that means but it's very off I would say. The makeup is a muted peach as well but putting it on my skin color it just looks very orange.
The red lipstick too looks warm red on me, when in fact it's just a dark cool red in person. That's the thing with color (or our eyes?), it changes depending on how they are placed. Some colors will clash when you put them together, some will be harmonious. That is the reason why on some tshirt colors you'll glow but on some it will make your skin look off, sometimes can even take all the colors from your skin and you'll look pale. :D
I can guarantee that a slightly different shade of this wig would change the look drastically.
From what I understand, for my skintone that doesn't show a lot of reds (I show a lot of yellow and green), I shouldn't wear anything too warm. I have noticed muted colors look good on me and recently noticed that cool colored tshirts look nice as well. Yeah I'm an artist but nope I still don't understand that shit haha.
Anyway, just another ramblings about color and how they are hard to figure out especially on a person lol. I'd rather not learn too deep on the theory and what should and shouldn't work... I'll learn on experience. And from my experience I'd be more mindful on the colors that I put near on my body, that includes makeup, wigs, clothing, accessories, etc.
Of course you still have to wear whatever you want even if it "doesn't suit you" cos you don't have to follow the rules. It's just color anyway. Just fascinating how colors are so complicated. :D
Also yeah I'm back to my self portrait era.
Actually the things that I got into in my teenage years are coming back to me as well but this time, it's better since I have the equipment necessary for them.
I guess it's also fascinating how my interests go hard then be dormant for years then make a comeback.
