I have always been in favor of thinking that children should not be given things as long as they earn it, I believe in the theory of "POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT", you can not reinforce in a positive way to someone who does not perform their duties correctly, it should be noted that this applies to both adults and children.
Anna Paula wanted to go to work for the store with me and her father, I asked her why she wanted to do that, her answer was very simple: "I must know how to manage everything in the store, when you can not attend, I will manage it", the answer seemed very logical to me, therefore the 3 of us went to work.
The initiative was totally hers, at no time I imposed her to do it, I think that at 8 years old she is still too young to do this kind of things, but definitely as parents we are role models and example to follow, therefore our children will repeat the behavior of their parents, in this case, she sees us working and that's what she wants to do in her free time, help us to work.
At the beginning and while there were no customers in the store we played a little bit, sometimes not everything should be strict work.
But, after a while she started to attend the clients herself, I showed her how to measure the ribbons that the clients asked for, I explained to her that 1 meter is 100 centimeters, and that when a client asked for a meter of ribbon she should measure from 1 to 100 and then cut, then I asked her a math question (we should take advantage of every moment to study), my question was: "if a meter is equivalent to 100 centimeters and a client asks you for half a meter of ribbon, how many centimeters do you give him? "She kept thinking about the answer, but immediately told me "obvious mom, 50 centimeters" hahahaha, she is unique.
Well, her first test was passed, a client asked for a meter of tape and she asked him if she could serve her, and so it was, definitely a success.
Then, she wanted to go further, and asked me to teach her how to use the point of sale, the thing here is more delicate, however I did not deny her, so I taught her with dad's debit card.
After all that and after more than 3 hours in the store I think she got tired of selling and told me she was going to make a bracelet, so I let her entertain herself for a while and I told her where the jewelry things were, my surprise was when she finished, she told me "mom look what I made you", really beautiful.
It was definitely a different day, I am proud of how smart and mature she is at such a young age.
I am 100% convinced that children should be given responsibility, according to their age and if they are above it but still want to do it, they should not be denied or on the contrary imposed, each child has their own learning pace and cognitive maturity and that must be respected.
