I want us to take a very good and critical look at this one because French has a lot of expressions that helps us understand and speak it better.
For today we are looking at BONNE JOURNÉE
As you can see it’s not a single word but a very common French expression.
Bonne journée means Have a nice day and it is pronounced [bon zhoor-nay].
French people use this expression when leaving someone during the day.
For me personally I love the expression because It is polite, friendly and very common.
Examples:
Merci, bonne journée ! – Thank you, have a nice day!
Je te souhaite une bonne journée. – I wish you a nice day.
Small expressions like this make conversations sound much more natural because they are part of everyday French culture.
If you go to Paris as a native English speaker and you say to someone “bonne journee” instead of just bon jour you’ll be more respected and familiar with the environment than other English speakers because language breaks barriers.
