Aside from giving me headspace, another thing that motivates me to continue on crocheting is receiving compliments or appreciation. It warms my heart every time someone tells me that they like my work. ā¤ļø
As I mentioned in my other blog post, my parents aren't into arts and crafts, so the kilig is in a different level whenever they compliment or give comments about the things that I do. Usually, they just ask what I am up to, and then ignore me after. Haha
It was a bit different this time with my Mama, though. Aside from asking about my crochet projects, she now lowkey requests for things, too! The first ones she requested were eye glasses strap for Papa and a phone pouch for her. The past weeks, she had been bugging me with a bucket hat. Literally, when I am crocheting, she would keep on asking if it was already her hat. šš¤£ My answer would always be a no because I don't have a yarn ideal for a bucket hat just yet. I would tell her that, but she would insist that I just use whatever yarn I have in my stash. I soon gave up and just went on with it. Haha
The main reason why I didn't want to use my existing yarn was that they were all Baguio Fine Cotton, which is ideal for clothes and shawls because they make airy and flowy projects. In my head, Fine Cotton yarn would make a very flimsy bucket hat. And indeed, the one I made was very light and soft. Oh, well. It still does its job and my Mama actually uses it, so yaaay!
I freehanded this one, which makes me even prouder. The only thing about it was that I ended up making it a bit big for Mama's head. I only found out when I let her try it on, about 90% into the project. Hahaha I offered to redo it to fit her better, but she refused and told me that it was okay and to just keep on going. Still, it bothered me, so I thought of a way to make it fit her perfectly. That was when an idea came to mind! I added an adjustable strap on the hat! I actually ended up liking the strap. Not only does it help with the fit, it also adds character to the whole design. Yay!
Another crochet request I received was from my 6-yr old nephew. He wanted me to make a Charmander toy for him. Haha I know almost nothing about Pokemon. I just know Pikachu, and vaguely know that Charmander is orange. Hahah So I looked it up online, and fortunately, even found a free pattern for it! I followed a pattern by 53stitches.
I am also grateful that I still have leftover fiber filling, so I was able to finish this a few days before my nephew's birthday! I gave this to him the night of his birthday and I was so grateful when he thanked me. It was not only because of the act of saying it, but I saw the sincerity on his face. Awwww. My heart. š
