Because of what was happening in Charlottesville VA in the U.S. and the hate-fueled violence that occurred. A woman died and many were injured in the voicing of their beliefs and values. As a person of color, I'm on the side of diversity. And it seemed that those on this side have sustained harm, both emotionally and physically.
I fear for those that speak for our future generations at this moment in time. I believe that eventually the diversity side will win out, and as has been shown in past history, a wave of violent backlash may have to be endured while forward progress is made.
While I fear for the safety of those that are actually "on the street" advocating for the rights and freedoms of persons of different color, sexual orientation and religion, I laud their presence in our current social situation, as I believe by taking a stand is the only way to make forward and positive change.
In the end, love will win out. Unfortunately, the bloodshed and harm that has accompanied the hard fought victories in the past are our inevitable present and future until we as a species collectively learn better.
